Pre requisite, Pre Tamping, During Tamping and Post tamping Activities Pre requisite for working in Construction By Anil Choudhary SPTM
Prerequisite for Tamping Minimum clean cushion of 150 mm Adequacy of ballast in crib & shoulder for general lift of 10/20 mm for each tamping operation
Pre-Tamping Operations • Field survey- to fix track profile • Marking on sleepers • Design slews (Fd) & transition correction (Vm/F) • Versine value/correction(H, Hx, Hy, Hz and Hw) • General lift/Design lift (Y) • Start & end of transition curve • Super elevation (SE)on curve and Transition • Heaping of ballast in tamping zone • Attention to low, hogged & battered joints • Making up of low cess • Improvement of track drainage
Pre-Tamping Operations (Contd. ) • Recoupment of fittings & fastenings • Squaring/spacing & replacement of broken/damaged sleepers • De stressing of LWR • Removal of guard & check rails • Gauging • Opening of L/crossing, Guard Rails, JFP etc.
Pre-Tamping Operations (Contd. ) • Removal of obstructions, wooden blocks & joggled fish plates • Removal /adjustment of traction bonds
Tamping of Turnouts by UNIMAT Pre-Tamping Operations • In addition, to the provisions for Tamping of plain track; additional aspects to be taken care • Layout including Sleeper spacing as per relevant drawings • Battered or worn nose of crossings should be replaced/Reconditioned. The warped or bent sleeper underneath nose of crossing should be attended. • Associate S&T and Electrical staff to complete their portion of work
Post-Tamping Operations • Checking & tightening of loose fittings • Replacement of broken fittings • Proper consolidation of ballast between the sleepers & shoulder and profiling (If DTS is not available, however as per IRTMM DTS is to be invariably used during Tamping) • Re fixing of guard & check rails • Re-fixing of JFP/OHE bonds
Tamping of Turnouts by UNIMAT Post-Tamping Operations • In addition, to the provisions for Tamping of plain track; • additional aspects to be taken care; • Checking and tightening of Loose/Broken fittings • All the S&T and Electrical connections removed before tamping should be restored • Dressing of Ballast
Acceptance criteria (IRTMM Para 224(5)) • Final track parameters on straight track as well as main line on turnouts should be recorded with the help of recorders provided in the tamping machine or by optional equipment like Data Recording Processor (DRP) or by separate run of track measuring trolleys etc. The machine should, after tamping, be able to achieve track geometry generally to category A standards, but in no case lower than category B limits specified in IRPWM.
IRTMM-2019 Pre-requisite for deployment of track machines in construction department. Requisite track geometry standards shall be ensured before deployment of track machines on construction projects: • Track laying standards - as specified in Para 316 of IRPWM should be followed. • A minimum clean ballast cushion of 250 mm on main line and 150 mm for yard line. • lift & slews values should also be calculated in advance for lining/ levelling for design mode of tamping.
IRTMM-2019 Pre-requisite for deployment of track machines in construction department • The track geometry prior to deployment of track machines for new works of new line, doubling, gauge conversion etc. should be as under • For achieving the track geometry parameters as above, suitable small track machines such as off-track tampers etc. may be used. Recording of achieved track parameters should be done using motorized trolleys. • The track should be certified fit for a speed of 30 kmph before deploying tamping machine. • On receipt of request from Dy. CE/(C), Sr. DEN will direct joint inspection of track to be done by AEN(C) and AEN/XEN/TM.
IRTMM-2019 Pre-requisite for deployment of track machines in construction department • Based on the joint inspection, Dy. CE (C) shall certify the track geometry as mentioned above, before deploying the track machines, after attending to deficiencies, if any. Sectional Sr. DEN/DEN shall confirm suitability of track for deployment of machine(s) by field verification or otherwise before machine is deployed. • Two rounds of tamping along with consolidation by DTS should be carried out at construction projects prior to opening of section. (Therefore track to be brought to almost desired geometry) • After opening of section for traffic, another round of Tamping along with consolidation by DTS may be done on need basis.
