What is Prayer? Psalm 19: 14 May the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be pleasing in Your sight O Lord, my Rock and my Redeemer. Prayer is an act of worship in which we speak to God, not only with our words, but from our hearts.

To Whom Should We Pray? Philippians 4: 6 Don’t be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. We should pray to the true God only, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, and not to idols, saints or anything God has created.

Whose prayers does God hear? 1 Peter 3: 12 The eyes of the Lord are on the righteous and His ears are attentive to their prayer. Only those who believe in Jesus Christ may pray to God and expect to be heard.

What kind of prayers may a believer bring to God? 1 Timothy 2: 1 I urge. . . that requests, prayers, intercessions and thanksgiving be made for everyone. Philippians 4: 6 In everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. A believer may bring prayers of request or thanksgiving to God about anyone or anything.

Where and when may we pray? 1 Thessalonians 5: 17 -18 Pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances. Ephesians 6: 18 Pray in the Spirit on all occasions. 1 Timothy 2: 8 I want men everywhere to lift up holy hands in prayer. A believer may pray anywhere and at any time.

PRAYER is WORSHIP in which BELIEVERS or ASK THANK GOD For Anyone or Anything In Jesus’ Name Anytime In God’s Will Anywhere

How should we pray? John 16: 23 My Father will give you whatever you ask in My name. James 1: 6 -7 When he asks Me he must believe and not doubt, for he who doubts. . . will not receive anything from the Lord. We should pray with firm confidence that for Jesus sake our prayers will be answered.

Why do we address God as “Our Father in heaven”? 2 Corinthians 6: 18 I will be a Father to you and you will be My sons and daughters. Galatians 3: 26 You are all sons of God through faith in Jesus Christ. 1 John 3: 1 How great is the love the Father has lavished on us that we should be called children of God. That is what we are. By faith God is our true Father and we are His true children.

GOD IS “OUR FATHER” BY FAITH IN JESUS because we are PRAY BOLDLY and with CONFIDENCE because we are GOD’S CHILDREN WE ADDRESS GOD OUR TRUE & LOVING FATHER WHO IS IN HEAVEN

Why does Jesus want us to remember the relationship we have with God by faith? Romans 8: 15 You did not receive a spirit that makes you a slave to fear, but a spirit of sonship that you may cry out, “Abba (Daddy) Father. ” Ephesians 3: 12 In Him and through faith in Him, we may approach God with freedom and confidence. Jesus wants us to remember that God is our loving Father by faith so that we may call on Him confidently without fear.

What does the word "our" mean for us when we pray, "Our Father"? James 5: 16 Confess your sins to each other and pray for each other. . . The prayer of a righteous man is powerful and effective. In Jesus all believers are children of the one Father and should pray for and with one another.

What do the words "who art (is) in heaven" say about God? Psalm 124: 8 Our help is in the name of the Lord, the maker of heaven and earth. Luke 1: 37 Nothing is impossible with God. These words assure us that our heavenly Father, as Lord over all, has the power to grant our prayers.

For What Do We Pray in the Second Petition? We do not pray that God's kingdom of power would come, because that is already present everywhere, but we ask God to give us His Holy Spirit so that we believe His Word and lead godly lives as members of His kingdom of grace.

God’s Kingdom which comes is Christ’s Rule Established in our hearts by the Holy Spirit through the Word Results in our believing the Word of salvation and living a life of faith “Send the Holy Spirit to strengthen Christ’s rule in our hearts and to spread that rule. ”

God’s Will GOSPEL PREACHED PURELY ALL PEOPLE BELIEVE IN JESUS LIVE A LIFE OF FAITH OPPOSED BY THE DEVIL, WORLD, SINFUL NATURE BUT

DAILY BREAD is ALL OUR BODILY NEEDS God’s gracious gift Which we trust God to supply each day Received by us with thanksgiving. The Fourth Petition

FORGIVENESS means God graciously wipes all our sins away for Jesus’ sake. assures us Moves us to forgive as we have been forgiven. God graciously answers our prayers in keeping with His will. The Fifth Petition

We Respond to God’s Gift of Forgiveness Ephesians 4: 32 Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other just as in Christ, God forgave you. "Inasmuch as we sin greatly against God every day and yet He forgives it all through grace, we must always forgive our neighbor who does us harm, violence, injustice and bears malice toward us. . . If you do not forgive, do not think that God forgives you" (Large Catechism III 94 -95).

How does forgiving someone else benefit you?

TEMPTATION is any situation in which we are led By devil, world or sinful nature to false belief to despair to great or shameful sin

EVIL Satan 1. Brought it into the world by the fall. 2. Uses it to make our life hard. God 1. Keeps it from us. 2. Permits it but… Uses it for our good. Helps us bear it. 3. Delivers us from it completely in heaven. Deliver us from evil.

How can we be sure that these petitions are acceptable to our Father in heaven? 1 Chronicles 29: 11 Yours, O Lord, is the greatness and the power and the glory and the majesty and the splendor. . . When we ask anything from Him we are giving all glory to God.

Amen Expresses Certainty That My Prayers Are Acceptable Because Heard Because He commanded us to pray this way. He promised to hear our prayer. We pray for His Kingdom and to His Glory. He has the power to answer our prayer. We are sure You will hear and answer our prayer.
