Pandemic practicum process Current practicums: Given the current situation we are waiving the practicum application requirement for this fall, however, students must still meet the listed requirements: -minimum 3. 0 g. p. a. in human service courses* -completion of all required courses listed under the practicum they are desiring to take* -background check receipt* (email receipt only to Mr. Kollie, george. kollie@hccs. edu) -attend online orientation and successfully pass the orientation quiz (for Spring 2021 practicums only) -Submit a practicum orientation application to katrina. mccrary@hccs. edu (for Spring 2021 practicums only) *If it is discovered that any of the minimum requirements have not been met, the student will be dropped and may forfeit any applicable refund. This includes if a student is found to have a significant background or history of behavioral issues. LCDC practicums: The state has currently approve remote work hours for the Fall 2020 semester, however, we cannot predict the availability of LCDC sites to students in the coming months. Therefore, while you may apply for a Fall/Spring practicum, we cannot guarantee placement. It is the students responsibility to check the site list and secure placement at a practicum site Thank you, Dr. Gary-Fortè
Practicum Approval Process- Spring 2021 Submit 3. 0 completed application GPA within the Human Service Program Faculty in the department reviews the application. You should receive and email within 3 -4 weeks after deadline There may be other reasons besides academic where your application may not be approved.
Practicum Application Three (3) practicums are required for the associates. You can take a combination of any 3 practicums* Human Service CMSW 1266 & 1267 (256 hours), CMSW 2266 (224 hours) Prevention DAAC 1264 (224 hours) CHW CHLT 1266 (224 hours) LCDC DAAC 2267 (304 hours) 224= about 13 hrs. a week/ 256= about 15 hrs. a week/ 304 hrs. = 18 hrs. a week Listed prerequisites must be completed. *
When to use IP (In Progress) 2. Below select and highlight one type of practicum you’re applying for and type the grade received next to the courses completed or an IP for those that are in progress with the expectation of completion by the end of the semester. Example: HUMAN SERVICE – Place an “X” next to the Human Service practicum course you’re applying for: I. _____CMSW 1266, II. ____x__CMSW 1267, III. ______CMSW 2266. For a Human Service Practicum the following courses must be completed prior the semester you’re applying for. Type the grade received for the required courses: SCWK 1321 ______ DAAC 1417____ CMSW 1313____ PSYC 2316 ____ HPRS 1201 ______ ENGL 1301 _____ PSYC 2301 _____
Required Courses All required courses must be completed PRIOR to enrolling in a practicum course with the exception of classes that are marked IP (in progress). Practicums can not be taken with required courses and all IP courses must be completed prior to taking a practicum course. Failure to complete all required courses prior to taking a practicum will cause you to be dropped from the practicum and monies paid, may be lost.

Prevention Practicum (DAAC 1264) required courses DAAC 2306 DAAC 2353 DAAC 1304
CHW (CHLT 1266) required courses CHLT 1401 CHLT 1302 CHLT 1342 CHLT 1291
Background check and Drug test Go to (Precheck). It costs $53. 58 for a background check. A background check is good for two years. Houston Launchpad does drug tests. It costs $25. Drug tests must be taken within two weeks of the start date of your class. Drug test must be sealed, marked confidential and turned in on the first day of class. Supporting documentation is required for all positive drug tests
Practicum Orientation You can only take one practicum a time You can take practicums in any order CHW practicums are only offered in the Spring Prevention Practicums are only offered in the Summer
Practicum Application If you lose your certificate you must attend another orientation During a marked pandemic, orientation will be available online. A passed orientation quiz will replace the required certificate during these times.
