The sign MAJOR can mean: main, line of work, profession (initialized to mean professional), or domain (area of study). I’m going to show you some majors. Don’t worry about learning them all. Just learn yours. If you need to see it again, raise your hand ask.

1. YOUR MAJOR WHAT? What are you majoring in?

The sign AIDE can mean “assistant. ” Compare with the signs: “HELP” you-HELP-ME

2. YOUR TEACHER HAVE AIDE? Does you teacher have an aide?

3. YOU USE BABYSITTER? Do you use a babysitter?

The sign BOSS can mean: employer, coach, capital (of a city)

4. YOUR BOSS NAME? What is your boss's name?

The sign COOK can be used to mean “kitchen” if you initialize it with a “K. ” Kitchen can be signed two ways: 1. 2. CHEF = COOK + AGENT

5. YOU LIKE COOK? Do you like to cook?

Father vs. Grandpa can be done by moving the hand in either a single or double arc.

6. YOUR GRANDPA FARMER? Is your grandpa a farmer? (or) Was your grandpa a farmer?

FARM uses an “AGENT” affix to become “farmer. ”

FINISH = done PAST / BEFORE Variation: “back when” or “long ago” –notice the palm orientation

BOY / MALE / GUY / MAN(variation 1) MAN-(variation 2) Little-boy = BOY SHORT girl / female WOMAN

7. PAST-(long-ago) YOURSELF LITTLEGIRL/BOY WANT BECOME FIREMAN YOU? When you were a little girl/boy did you want to be a fireman?

FIREMAN fire – burning fire – terminate employment

DIVORCE NEW YOUR STEP-mother can be shown several ways: “second mother” “second (variation) mother” “fake mother” “S-T-E-P mother”

8. SUPPOSE YOUR DAD DIVORCE, MARRY NEW WOMAN, SHE YOUR WHAT? If your dad were divorced and re-married, what relationship would the new wife be to you?

These signs are all related: NEARBY / CLOSE-BY getting CLOSE-to NEAR NEIGHBOR (has variations)

1. PICTURE YOUR FAMILY HAVE YOU? Do you have a picture of your family?

“United States” is shown by doing US using a very small circular movement for each letter.

2. WHO PRESIDENT U-S? Who is president of the United States?

These concepts are all related: “your turn” “second hand” “used” “step” (as in stepfather/mother) “MOM MARRY AGAIN”

What does the sign "stepfather" mean?

stepfather noun: the husband of your mother by a subsequent marriage (marry again) [The concept of “step-” is often signed as “second hand” or it can be spelled. ]

3. STEPFATHER, MEANING ? What does the sign "stepfather" mean?

LAW: The sign “law” is often shortened to one movement when used for “BROTHER (in) LAW” = BROTHER-LAW.

4. HOW-MANY BROTHER-INLAW YOU HAVE? How-many brothers-in-law do you have?

SERVE The sign SERVE can be used with “AGENT” to mean waiter or waitress. SHOULD / MUST / NEED / OUGHT-to all use the same basic sign

5. WAITRESS, HOW-MUCH SHOULD T-I-P? How much should you tip a waitress?

6. NEWSPAPER, YOU LIKE READ? Do you like to read the newspaper?

NEWSPAPER generally uses a double movement. The sign when done with a single movement can be used to mean “PRINT” as in “Print your name. ”

7. WHICH COMPUTER PROGRAM YOU USE? Which computer program (or programs) do you use?

COMPUTER has several signs. A. B. C. Here in Sacramento I recommend you use the on the forehead.

Secretary has several versions. I recommend the “pencil to mouth write on paper”-AGENT version. The sign HUNGRY can be used to mean “WISH” The sign SELF can be used to mean: “YOUR OWN. ”

8. YOU WISH YOURSELF HAVE SECRETARY Do you wish you had your own secretary?

SCIENCE, CHEMISTRY, and BIOLOGY all use variations of the same sign. Science can use either an S or an “A” with thumbs out. Chemistry uses a “C. ” Biology uses a “B”
