Background of the study ❏ Public sector, Private sectors and NGOs in healthcare has gradually improved the overall health in Bangladesh but efficiency in healthcare distribution system is yet to be achieved. ❏ E-health, Electronic Health Records (EHR), Health Information System (HIS) is a fairly new concept in Bangladesh. Global Trends and Directions in Healthcare Delivery; Source: (Shi & Singh, 2014)
Purpose of the Research To explore the practices of integrated information system in the healthcare delivery in Bangladesh. Research Question How Praava Health is maintaining integrated hospital information system for its patients?
Literature Review ❏ In the hub-and-spoke organizational design, the service delivery assets are arranged into an interconnected network that consists of an anchor establishment (hub) and several secondary establishments (spokes) (Porter & Lee, 2013). ❏ Diffusion of Innovation states that, in order to sustain, an innovation must be widely adopted to a point when it reaches critical masses (Rogers, 1962). ❏ As Rogers (1962) identifies, adoption rate is usually the time required by the users to adopt an innovation and it follows an S curve that includes innovators, early adaptors, early majority, late adopters and laggards.
Research Method ❏ Documentary Research Method was applied to build up the case of Praava Health. ❏Bailey (1994) describes Documentary Research Method to be the process of analyzing and studying the documents containing information about events, organizations or individuals we wish to study. ❏Data was collected from scholarly journals, websites, news sources, startup magazine, company website.
Case Study Findings - Praava Health is a healthcare startup that calls itself as “a network of Family Health Centers” The key value proposition - to deliver quality health care service to patients through mobile app and website by bringing world class healthcare technology system (e. g. integrated hospital information system, patient portal) for the first time in Bangladesh.
Discussion/Findings: ❏Hub-and-spoke Model in Bangladesh ❏HIS Services User Acceptance in Bangladesh As Per Roger’s Innovation Adoption Model
Discussion/Findings (Contd. ): Hub-andspoke Model ❏ It consist of a main premise and one or more satellite premises. ❏ The hub premise can offer full services to patients whereas the spoke can offer limited services on the satellite premises or can re-route the patients to the hub for more intensive treatment. ❏ Hub-and-spoke organizational network can reduce replication of major operations across the sites which may increase the volume of scalable service.
Discussion/Findings: User Acceptance of HIS Services in BD as Per Roger’s Innovation Adoption Model ❏ So far, Praava has registered and served thousands of patients and of which sixty percent visits are from repeat clients which is a high retention rate (Future Startup, 2018). ❏ As per Roger’s Innovation Adoption Model, Praava’s client base is currently transitioning from the Early Adopters to the Early Majority requiring Praava to handle ‘the chasm’ during the shift.
Implications ❏The Hub-and-Spoke Model can be implemented to remodel the health care services in Bangladesh to provide coordinated health care services that improves overall quality. ❏Further quantitative study is required to understand the users’ acceptance level of HIS in Bangladesh, along with possible recommendations to close any existing gap.
Limitation & Conclusion ❏ Only secondary data has been collected to conduct this research. ❏ We have already established communication with Praava Health and in future we can receive more accurate and up to date data to analyze the potential and challenges facing Praava Health in Bangladesh. ❏ Study on the efficiency of Hub-and-Spoke Model in delivering integrated healthcare service can open future research scope on E-health and Healthcare distribution system in Bangladesh.
