Overview Siem Reap is the capital city of Siem Reap Province in northwestern Cambodia. It is also well -known for Angkor Wat and resort town. Its name can be translated to mean “Defeat of Siam” and its encomy depends on tourism about 50 percent. The increase of population will affect the economic in Cambodia. Moreover, the lack of eduction will also affect the people and the education level. The village that we are going to is lack of social services; hospital, 7 -eleven, police offices, which are bad for health.
Siem Reap When we arrived to Siem Reap, the guide said we have to beware for landmines because in the Vietnam war the American dropped the UXO bombs from airplanes , so we don’t know where the bombs are located. which become more difficult for agriculture and most people in rural area are living by agriculture.
Smurf’s Family On the way to the village, one of the wheels was broken and we called 911 for help, but there was no signal because we were in the forest. While we were trying to find the signal, we met villagers on the way. They were so kind and invited us to their house. When we arrived to the village, we realized the village that we are going to is this village. There was a signal here so we could call 911 but they said that they would arrive next week. We decided to interview the Smurf’s family for one week and they allowed us to interview them.
Daily life in Smurf family Toland, the leader of the family, worked as a worker in a factory that produced cans of fish for every whole month. Sai Mota, who loved to cook, worked as a tailor for 25 days. Eris and Omar also worked with their mother, Sai Mota, for about 10 or 20 days per month. Because Rem and Slencio were too young, they couldn’t help the family very much. When we asked them would you rather spending your time playing or working, they said to us that they prefer working because they wanted to help their parents and siblings. Moreover, Vell and Erirna who went to aborad worked as a waiter in a resturant. Toland said they may not be here in this past week.
The Conclusion After we interviewed them for one week, they told us that the average of their income and saving were about 176 dollars and 19. 4 dollars per month. Unfortunately, Omar got an accident on the second month and the doctor said that he wouldn’t be able to have normal life like the other people have because when he got an accident, he lost his left arm. On the third month, Rem got sick because he went out to play when there was raining. Moreover, on the fifth month, Slencio also got sick because he went outside and came back without washing his hands and Eris almost got sick too. Erirna called the family that there was someone wanted her to work in sex slavery, so Toland decided to bring her back home. On the sixth month, there was a clinic opened up and they wouldn’t cost any money for health check-up. Even though Erirna came back and Toland decided to sent Eris, Rem, and Slencio to school, the family income still be enough to feed all family members.
