Statistically Speaking According to stats from 2015, in the United States… � 43 million people live below the poverty line ($24, 250 annual income) � 20 million people live below half of the poverty line ($12, 125 annual income) � There are more than 700, 000 homeless people In North Carolina (population 9. 8 million)… � 1. 6 million people are living in poverty (16%) � 12. 3% of Davie County residents in poverty

Arriving at the Issue of Poverty What led me to chose this issue? � Seeing the homeless on street corners � Having compassion for those in need � My dad is passionate about it and supports a homeless shelter in Winston Salem � Knowing that this is a huge global issue

How I got Involved � Samaritan Ministries Penny Campaign Yearly event that takes place from October through December Raises money for the soup kitchen and homeless shelter 2015’s campaign raised $57, 047 � I raised a total of $103. 64 for this cause
How I got Involved �My 1 st period class sponsored two “little lambs” with the Storehouse for Jesus �We bought gifts and clothing for the two girls for Christmas
Personal Takeaways �Knowledge on this issue �Empathy for those in need �I learned there are many hurting people in the world But… �There also many people who are helping those affected by poverty �I can be a part of something bigger than myself and help solve this issue
