What to Look for in a College • Size • Cost – Public v. Private • Location – Instate v. Out-of-State – Setting • Special Programs and Extracurricular Activities • Specialty Schools (i. e. military, art, etc. ) Remember College Visits in the Spring are not excused absences for Seniors
What are Colleges Looking For? • Strong transcripts – GPA – Strength of Program – Trends • Standardized Test Scores • Recommendations • Essays • Extracurricular Activities

APPLY ü Review the PROCESS & REQUIREMENTS for each post-secondary school – This information is available through the Office of Undergraduate Admissions ü Complete the APPLICATION for each college – On-line v. paper applications – Payment options ü ESSAYS
The Transcript Release/Application Checklist Form Identifying Information Application Due Date Progress of Application $3. 00 Fee for each Transcript Reminders Signatures (Parent Signature required if under 18)
Components of the Transcript Release/Application Checklist Form Counselor Recommendations • Insight forms and resume need only be submitted once • Insight forms are available on the LCHS Guidance website or on Family Connections Teacher Recommendations • Only required if letters need to be sent with transcript
Requesting Transcripts & Letters of Recommendation ü Complete the Transcript Release/Application Checklist Form – This form is your directions to us for completing your application – 1 Form per Transcript – BE THOROUGH! ü Talk to teachers/counselors/community members about RECOMMENDATIONS
Deadlines for Requesting Transcripts and Letters of Recommendation We require 10 school days to process all requests Application Due Date October 15 November 15 December 15 All January Deadlines February 15 Deadline to Request Transcripts September 17 October 31 November 17 December 1 December 5 January 16 February 2 **Remember a complete request includes: Transcript Release form/College Application Checklist for each college app. $3. 00 Fee for the official transcript Insight forms/Resume, if requesting a counselor’s letter of recommendation Supplemental materials (i. e. Secondary School Report)
