What is Post-Modernism? n A cultural trend developed in the 60’s starting from the French thought (Derrida, Lyotard, Focault) as a response for social changes n A lot of trends during the years claim to become part of Post-Modernism (Feminism, New-age, Postcolonialism) n Post-Modernism concerns with a great revision of standards models of Modernism n It accepts Modernism problems but it changed their perspective: from the elites to the whole society
Why Post-Modernism? n The search for impersonality failed: it transformed in subjectivity (everyone’s point of view is important) n The search for order could no longer be valid: Post. Modern man has to accept disorder because of Godel’s Theory and Theory of Chaos n The background had changed: repressed voices want their role in culture n They turned upside down the paradigms of dominant culture

Some considerations n Post-Modernism is a trend still going on n You can’t describe it but only recognize its prescriptive dimension n Features like decentred subject, disorder, and Pathos, have their reason in today’s society n Therefore you don’t know if society affects the Postmodern thought or if the contribution of the Postmodern thought produces a greater change in society
