What is the Post Enumeration Survey? ØPurpose: Øto measure how many times either dwellings or people were missed or counted more than once. Øoutcomes used when determining the Estimates Residential Population. Øevaluates the effectiveness of Census collection procedures.
How is the Post Enumeration Survey conducting in Australia? ØThe Post Enumeration involves: Øenumerating a sample of the population Øcomparing these results against the Census results Øusing the results from the Post Enumeration Survey when determining the Estimated Residential Population
The enumeration ØA sample of approximately 32, 000 dwellings is selected about. 3% Øenumeration occurs 3 -4 weeks after Census night, while Census is still fresh in peoples minds Øconducted by interview with an adult asked to supply information all residents
The enumeration ØInformation obtained includes: Øname Ødate of birth Øcountry of birth Ømarital status Øthe address they spent Census Night - more than one address can be provided ØWhen an interviewer arrives at a dwelling, it is possible that the dwelling: Østill has their Census form - the dwelling is considered to have been missed by the Census process.
Searching and Matching ØPost Enumeration and Census forms compared to: Øfind the original dwelling to ensure it was counted Øfind each person at one or more of the addresses provided Ødetermine if the people are the same based on comparison of Census and Post Enumeration Survey responses
Searching and Matching ØIf the dwelling or person is not included in the Census results - undercount has occurred ØIf the dwelling or person is found more than once overcount has occurred ØIf the dwelling or person is counted once and once only, the Census process worked! ØRules can also exist to determine partial match for a person
Using the results ØPut very briefly. . . ØThe Census population count is supplemented by the Post Enumeration Results when determining the Estimated Residential Population ØWhen determining the Estimated Residential Population in Australia, we take into account: ØAustralian residents temporarily overseas ØResidents from other countries temporarily in Australia ØPost Enumeration Results ØBirths and Deaths ØThese are used to determine the Estimated Residential Population.
