GUIDING PRINCIPLES for portions derived for GDA labeling purposes • Portions intended for GDA labelling purposes • Most foods are not consumed in 100 g/ml ESSENTIAL GUIDELINES • should be meaningful, practical & easily understood by consumers Reference portions or quantities are derived by many factors – including one or more of the following; • Reference portions or quantities should be based on actual consumption across the EU • I. e. a typical consumption occasion • Related to dietary recommendations • National/International guidelines on portions • Take into account history of use • Representative for EU wide population • Should be realistic and reasonable • Give examples of what not misleading consumers means e. g. single serve • Need to include practical considerations to get around criticisms • take into consideration existing legislation • Should take into consideration format, presentation and packaging
