Personally, I find it quite interesting the fact that MTV is questioning Porn. Hub to as what happens and how do they know if it isn’t just another guy pretending to be a woman. After all it is the internet and you never know who is on the other side of the screen. This probably has to do with putting in the website extra details and confirmation too. I think it’s good that other companies challenge campaigns – it allows them to think how they can over come difficulties and develop themselves.
Who worked on this campaign? Pornhub brand manager Alexandra Klein Production: Officer&Gentleman Art Direction / Animation: Vladimir Marchukov Animation: Yaroslav Kuryanovich, Slava Romanov, Oleg Kulinich, Aleksandr Tereshin, Anastasia Chikunova Illustration: Radik Zagidullin Sound Design: Daruma Audio
What’s the brief and what the client input was Brief - Adult video streaming giant Pornhub's new ''female-centric' campaign, "Fuck Your Period, " aims to meet the needs of the growing number of women watching porn during the time of the month they might need it most. Client input - Pornhub is reaching out to its new-found female fanbase to encourage women to ease their menstrual pains orgasmically by practicing “self care” in the expressively-titled new “f**k your period” campaign. Pornhub says it launched the ‘f**k your period’ campaign to “help take some of the bite out of shark week” by allowing female users free access to ‘Pornhub Premium’ throughout the duration of their period.
What is this campaign about? For sufferers of menstrual cramps, PMS and other monthly forms of misery, relief is a precious and hard-to-find thing. Options are pretty limited to painkillers and hot water bottles, neither of which are particularly fun. Pornhub has a better idea. A new way to address period woes: "F Your Period, " a campaign inspired by studies showing that orgasms can help alleviate period pain. Pornhub brand manager Alexandra Klein said the campaign is an educational one, meant to promote the well-documented benefits of orgasming during menstruation.
Why have they done this? This is the first Pornhub campaign focused exclusively on women, whose needs are a growing part of the site’s content. Their 2017 year in review data survey revealed that, while the number of women visiting Pornhub didn’t increase last year, "porn for women" was the top trending search term of the year and increased by over 1, 400 percent. "With these insights, it comes as no surprise that we’d want to do an initiative fully centered toward benefiting our female users, and I’m sure this will be the first of many, " Klein said. "It had come to our attention over the years that there were countless articles out there that supported the studies of menstrual orgasms' benefits, " Klein said, "but many focused only on the act of having sex with another person during one's period (i. e. do it in the shower) which certainly isn't always possible or desirable. " In addition to boosting your mood and relieving stress, orgasms are known to decrease cramps by releasing dopamine and oxytocin (natural pain relievers), and research has shown many women experience a spike in sexual desire during their periods. Klein also noted that the number of women searching for porn catered to their gaze went up over 1000% between 2016 and 2017
How have they done it? Visuals - The campaign's landing page has cute graphics and a millennial pink background, a far cry from Pornhub's usual black, orange and extremely graphic aesthetic. It prompts female users to answer a few questions about their cycle (like how long it lasts and when it last started). Connection - Women can input information about their cycles’ length and frequency on Pornhub and, every month, get a free week of the ad-free Pornhub Premium service while they wait it out. Pornhub then promises to send you an email on the first day of your next period (which it predicts!) with access to three days of free on-demand, premium content. Users can do this up to three times.
Target audience This is the first Pornhub campaign focused exclusively on women, whose needs are a growing part of the site’s content. This campaign is targeting women for the age 18+ to release natural hormones such as; dopamine and oxytocin. It’s for women to learn and love their bodies in a different way. By doing this the campaign is encouraging self-love and care. It also makes women be more confident and empowering them.
Even though it is an educational campaign I think that Porn. Hub should be careful to whom they advertise it and where. They can’t do much when something goes viral, however they can be advertising things in the correct places such as; Campaign. Live, It’s. Nice. That – company and agencies which are for more grown ups and children don’t have access to. However, places such as You. Tube should make sure it says 18+ sign or ask the viewers before they watch the video whether they are 18 and above. I think this is important because it can easily crash the campaign by having audience giving negative feedback or complaining about young generations viewing this.
People’s reactions
Previous work Something interesting I found about Porn. Hub is that this is not something new for them. This is not the first time they have done something for educational reasons and allow people to see the good in ‘sex’ or in allowing people to enjoy it. Last year Porn. Hub launched it’s first sex education site. Personally, I though that was inspiring because they show they care about their audience. They literally take care of their audience by making sure they are safe and release natural hormones which means they embrace the natural human elements which we can cure ourselves with. https: //www. pornhub. com/sex/
How to improve it. The campaign can create more visual styles such as Gifs. This will allow the campaign to grow and become more known which will also be good for Porn. Hub as more people will talk about it and visit the website. Visual styles such as memes, gifs and other allow businesses to grow as they become recognisable to the audience. I think another way of improving this campaign is to not demean men so much. The campaign is quite against men having sex with a woman on her period. I think that the campaign can maybe change this in the future and motivate men to have sex with women on their period. Furthermore, this campaign can be expand by interviewing women and what they think about this, how does it work, is it worth it etc. This way when women watch the interviews they will be less shy of doing this because I think a lot of women hide and are ashamed of doing this. This will boost their confidence and allow them to stand for their needs. Plus it will show them whether it’s worth it or not.
Opinion I really enjoy this campaign. I think it’s different and it should definitely be done more. This is an area where companies and agencies don’t focus on which is why this campaign ‘F Your Period’ stands out more and it works well. The graphics work well because they target the correct audience and the aesthetics of it too. The company saw a gap in the industry and has targeted it which is what we need of more.
I must say I strongly disagree with this. From personal experience – when I walked around the class and I talked about this to people they did not know how to react or what to say or how to go on with the conversation. In fact a lot of people questioned me saying “do people actually do this? ” , “are you for real? ” – so yes I disagree that women are comfortable talking about this. I think masturbating is something personal and intimate. I don’t think it’s something that everyone finds easy – this is one of the reasons why I like this campaign because it makes women talk about it and show them that it’s ok to talk about period and about masturbating.
"We wanted to create a female-centric campaign championing the benefits of having a menstrual orgasm. Countless articles out there [support] menstrual orgasms’ benefits, but many focused only on the act of having sex with another person, which certainly isn’t always possible or desirable. “ In my opinion I strongly agree with this point that the brand manager Alexandra Klein is making. They are taking care of women by showing them it’s ok to please yourself while on your period – they are saying that we should not be grossed out and it’s natural. Alexandra Klein is showing and embracing women to be themselves when it’s needed.
I did some research into looking how to relieve period pain and most websites talk about taking tablets, exercising, drinking teas, how water bottles etc. Most of these methods usually take a while for them to work which is not how it’s suppose to be. When you are trying to relieve pain you want it to be as fast as possible. No website talked about having an orgasm can relieve and ease your period pains. I think that should be more advertised just like how Porn. Hub has done it. For this reason I agree with what Alexandra Klein says about that they are trying to make periods be easy for women.
Extended research I decided to look into who else has done something similar to Porn. Hub F Your Period and see how challenging it must have been for them. I was not able to find any campaigns which encouraged women to masturbate while on their period, however I did manage to find a lot of websites which talk about how women find it difficult to talk about periods which backs up my point to what I had said earlier (from the she knows article) women find it hard to talk about this because it’s personal and intimate. http: //www. periodpositive. com/ https: //www. theguardian. com/commentisfree/2017/may/30/ a-period-emoji-could-help-girls-talk-about-menstruationthat-would-be-a-big-deal http: //thehomelessperiod. com/
