VULNERABLE POPULATION POLICY MAP PROJECT OVERVIEW: PILOT (FALL 2016) The Vulnerable Populations Policy. Map Project (VP-MP) helped prepare MHA students to identify populations at risk, develop risk segmentation characteristics, and to complete risk stratification decisions necessary for successful population health management strategies. Project Mentors: Lisa De. Luca, MHA Library Liaison, Beth Bloom, MHA Library Liaison and Riad Twal, TLTC Instructional Designer. MHA students enrolled in Fall 2016 course – HCAD 7518 Community and Population Health Management (Online (N = 28) and On-campus (N = 28). M H A ASTERS OF EALTHCARE DMINISTRATION
GOALS OF GROUP PROJECT MHA students (online and on-campus) will complete a vulnerable populations presentation (ppt) focusing on the characteristics and identity of the particular sub-population group. MHA students, will use their vulnerable populations overview to identify an at-risk population and complete one Policy. Map per student to illustrate the relationship between an at-risk population and a social determinant or health status impact factor. POLICYMAP #4 Criteria § Areas where the largest concentration of uninsured females live. § Due to Zika’s relationship with birth defects, uninsured females need to be extra vigilant in their safety. § These areas are prime locations for deploying Zika education and providing public health resources. STUDENT COMMENTS Really cool software once I figured out how to use it! I discovered my hometown in rural NJ had 30 murders per 1000 in a 1. 9 sq mile town. Using Data Loader was helpful …. tables and charts made the information easier to visualize. Maybe make a simple policymap part of the discussion board as it was foreign to me. Improve the Policy. Map assignment by dedicating one entire class to learning the fundamentals. MASTERS OF HEALTHCARE ADMINISTRATION
