POP CULTURE: The Way We Were � In the 1960’s Pop culture was based around a mixture of areas. Books, music, fashion and other areas in which had a high contribution to the society during this time � Radio, Film and television were main sources which showed American Pop Culture. � The majority of the population in America was under the age of 18 years old. They were very influenced by each other. The disposal money they received annually was equivalent to $140 billion dollars. � Famous books from those times were books some of us studied such as How To Kill a Mockingbird and Valley of the Dolls. � Coloured T. V. Screens were a major embraceable value as they became so common in comparison to black and white TV sets. By then everyone had at least one television in their house. This lead to the creation of drive in movie theatres. There were more than 6, 000 i 1962. � The Beatles, Elvis and Motown and San Franciscan music were very popular at this time. On the radio, stereos in cars, portable record player etc. � Religion was growing especially evangelicalism as it was seen as the new kind of relaxed nondenominational churches. In '66, the TIME cover story will actually ask "Is God Dead? " By the end of the decade, nearly 60 million people had moved out of cities and into suburbs in search of a brighter, cleaner world.

POLITICS: Power to the People � By 1960, every had a television. They showed images of war poverty, racism, and nuclear threat. � Americas new president is young, fashionable and sophisticated. President, and John F. Kennedy wins president by promising to keep the U. S. ahead of Race and Cold War whilst removing the era of segregation. � All through the '60 s, political awareness was seen as a civic duty. Votes were higher in the 1960 s than in any other decade since WWII. � A Vote is a Civil Right � All American men over 21 have the right to vote after 1870. Also a constitutional amendment in '64, to remove barriers for black voters. � Young adults are next in line for the vote. In 1964, the first male Baby-Boomers turn the age 18 old enough to be sent to Vietnam. � Now boys includes the first working-class kids to attend college. Many worked for the civil rights movement.
REVOLUTIONS: The Right to Protect vs. The Right to Protest � During the 60’s it was the time where several individual Americans became leaders voicing for thousands for peace, justice, freedom and equality. However the government responded by isolating, controlling, and neutralizing the leaders of against their will. On one side, the people attempt to exercise their rights; on the other side, the government is protecting the nation. The program uses methods such as Surveillance, recordings, anonymous letters and outright blackmail to create organizational divisions. � The files of many public figures remain sealed, but a growing number of secret dossiers (generally censored) are becoming available through the Freedom Of Information Act.
