POP Art Movement Pop art is an art movement that emerged in the United Kingdom and the United States during the mid- to late-1950 s. The movement presented a challenge to traditions of fine art by including imagery from popular and mass culture, such as advertising, comic books and mundane cultural objects. In Pop Art the subject matter features images from popular culture (e. g. , advertising, cartoons, or commercial art). This was the same culture that inspired artist Andy Warhol to experiment with the technique of silkscreen printing, a very popular technique used for mass production. Famous Pop Art artist, Roy Lichtenstein developed a style that was based on the visual vernacular of masscommunication: the comic strip.
