• sick or tired • body is sick or needs rest • boredom • lack of interest because of a boring topic or dry delivery. • may fake attention, show no energy output, or daydream. *rest/get proper sleep *exhibit active body state *judge content, not delivery. *ask oneself, “What’s in it for me? ” *take notes on main ideas using different methods.
• know-it-all • tune out what’s being said because thinks there’s nothing new to learn. • ego-involvement *be open-minded *ask questions *ask oneself, “What’s in it for me? ” *don’t judge the message until its completely comprehended. • biased • refuse to listen because message or speaker is offensive. • react to emotional words. *interpret color words (instead of getting hung up on them).
