What is the Issue? Pollution is when land, water, or air becomes less pure because of added substances that are harmful to living organisms. There are many ways that pollution can be spread, including chemicals in the air, energy (such as light and noise), and temperature. According to one source, air pollution alone kills around 2. 4 million people every year around the world.
Where is it happening? Pollution is happening all over the world, but is a larger problem in some countries like the United States and China. This chart shows what carbon dioxide emissions looks like, which is one type of pollutant. This chart also predicts the future years, which just shows that every countries emissions are gradually growing higher and higher.
When is it occurring? When did it start? Pollution is occurring all the time, whenever we make a fire, litter, drive most types of cars, or when we let chemicals spill into the ground. Some people will also argue that pollution has been around as long as humans, while some might argue that it has been around for only about 2, 000 years. Whether either one is right, it still is true that pollution has been around for quite a long time. There also different types of pollution, which could have each been around for different lengths of time. For example, water pollution has probably been around longer than humans have, because of animals who pollute water by themselves.
How is culture involved? Culture is involved in pollution because we have been brought up to drive cars, build fires, and so much more. But what culture doesn’t mention, is how much it affects our environment, so we just keep on making these mistakes and teaching the next generation the same lessons, because it has been passed on through culture.
