Who is my advisor? If you do not know or do not remember your advisor, find this information at my. SMU. When You should contact your advisor when you have 12 hours in the program and again when you’ve reached 30 hours. How do I see my advisor? do I make an appointment? Some advisors have set hours each term, others see students by appointment. You should make initial contact via email. If you do not get a response from your advisor within 48 hours, please re-email your initial note. Remember, scheduling advisor meetings is the student’s responsibility. What do I discuss with my faculty academic advisor? Expectations Making Appointments Your assigned advisor is a supportive resource and scheduling consultant for you but is not your term-by-term “scheduler. ” It is your responsibility to create a schedule of classes that works for you each term. It is recommended (and, at some junctures, required) for you to meet with your advisor to review your master schedule and program performance. You should contact your advisor when you have 12 hours in the program and again when you’ve reached 30 hours. Advising appointments get booked quickly and are usually scheduled 2 -3 weeks in advance. Please do not email your advisor the week before registration and expect an immediate appointment. When scheduling, please include the following in your email to your advisor: your goal to be met in the advising appointment; your current track; a phone number where you can be reached; your time(s) on campus for current classes or other availability.
