POKÉMON STADIUM 3 CONCEPT
OVERVIEW AND PREMISE • Game name: Pokémon Stadium 3 • Sequel to: Pokémon Stadium and Pokémon Stadium 2 • Platform: Nintendo Consoles • What is the game about: it is about battling Pokémon trainers to reach the gym leaders and elite four alongside playing mini games and battling other players. • Genre: fantasy, turn based RPG, combat (there are probably others I cant think of at the moment)
THEME First Pokémon Stadium game The game will be set in one of the cities from the 3 rd generation Pokémon game. it will take place during the 3 rd game and will give the player access to all the Pokémon from the previous generations and the 3 rd gen game. Where the trainer can battle through Pokémon gyms to progress the game along with battle against other players online and transfer Pokémon they have from other games they have into this game if they want or they an make up a team from all the Pokémon available to them on the ready from the get go that will range from the first gen up to the 3 rd gen. Second Pokémon Stadium game
NARRATIVE STRUCTURE This game will follow the same setting of the previous games with the same general story of battling through trainers and their teams to progress to the next level and having the ability to make up your own team on the fly but also have the option of transferring any Pokémon you already have into the game as well so you can fight with them there as well if you possibly want the battles to feel more personal. • There will definitely have the mini games in this as well since they ae a key piece to the game apart from the battling. The game will start with the option of if you want to battle right away with a randomised team, wanting to battle against another player, go to the main game battles, transfer your Pokémon over to this game from one of your 3 rd gen games, play mini games, or want to fight against an AI. • The game will end with the player having defeated all of the elite four of the 3 rd gen game and rival and will then give the option to go further and battle the gyms and elite four of the older gen games, the player could receive a prize in the form of a rare/shiny? Pokémon possibly with a move exclusive to it that they will have given to them when they complete the 3 rd gen part of the game and when complete the other two generations after that with the Pokémon getting better as you complete it. • It will be a sequel of sorts to the first two games with it taking place in the 3 rd generation meaning that it will include characters and Pokémon from the 3 rd gen game that you can battle through or play the mini games with. • There probably wont be anything all that new in the sense of mechanics and style but there will be changes to the animations and models of the Pokémon and the special effects of their moves so that it can look smoother and perhaps change some of the animations of the models so that they have some sense of realism in their movements and actions when they attack or get hit. There might be a change with the mini games in the form of using Pokémon from the 3 rd game and possibly making new types of or more mini games to play when not battling.
KEY FEATURES One of the old mini games • Keeping the mini games is a must since they are such a big part of the game that allows people to let off steam and/or relax after they have done battles, it also allows for some wacky antics with the Pokémon you play with and as so it is a must keep. • Multiplayer is another thing I will keep since it was another key feature that would allow players to battle with friends or family which I did quite a lot so it’s a keep. • Teambuilding is a keep since it allows people to make up a team with Pokémon they don’t have or would have access to since if someone cant transfer their personal team they can make one similar to it since I didn’t have any Pokémon I could transfer over onto either of the stadium games myself. • I will have all the Pokémon from the 3 rd gen game since it is based on that generation but I will also keep Pokémon from the two generations before that as well since the second Pokémon stadium kept the 1 st gen Pokémon upon release which would also allow people to experiment with the teambuilding.
KEY FEATURES CONTINUED Player vs character • I will keep the challenges since those are the main part of the game which is to challenge gym after gym to then go on and battle the elite four and rival of that game. Though I may change it up a little since the reviews of the old games would say about how tedious and repetitive the first two games ae in the sense of battling so I will probably change it up a little in some way to make it more exciting and less boring as the game progresses. maybe add some form of player interaction with the characters? • The ‘online’ battles since then has changed, back then online battles was player vs computer, so what I’ll do is make it so the player can actually battle people online from around the world but still have the option of going up against a computer if the player would feel more comfortable doing so instead of being instantly put up against another payer that probably has more expertise in the game than them or something. • I will keep the ability to transfer Pokémon from game to game since it was something that allowed players to online fighting with there own Pokémon and maybe even expand on it by allowing the players to store Pokémon in the game as well so that they can keep them there so the could battle with them again in the future.
GAME CONTROLS/PLATFORM Old platform I will probably have to change the platform and controls of the game cause there are very few people who play on the N 64 anymore and I have a feeling if some people more recently where to try and play it they would get bored or dislike the dated graphics so I will have to move the platform to one of the more recent Nintendo consoles such as the Nintendo Switch console instead so that everyone can play it at the same level of understanding. With the moving onto a newer platform for the game it would allow me to make the animations of attacks and models look much smother and cleaner than in the previous where meaning I could change up the animations a bit to make them more appealing and possibly look more like what the Pokémon would actually do when in battle such as when attack using certain moves or when they get hit with certain moves. With the change of console there will be a change of controls and with a change of controls there will be a change of what said controls will do or how they ae used since it probably wont be the same as how the old games there played or controlled. As far as I know I think its best to have the game on the Nintendo switch console since I believe the controls for that console are the most similar to the controls of the previous two games. Battle in Pokémon stadium 2
GAMEPLAY MECHANICS • The main objective of the games is to reach the elite four and the players rival in order to complete the game but there is an option in which the player can move onto the other regions of the previous generations an go on to try and defeat their elites and rivals. • The main character will of course be the player with the option of having up to four players if anyone wants to play 2 v 2 or 1 v 1. there also a choice to play with other players from around the world or an AI if they feel like it on online, along with the option of trying to play through four/three “Stadium Cup” challenges which will limit what type of Pokémon you use throughout the challenges. • Throughout the game you will have to gain the badges of gyms to progress meaning the players cant straight up go against the elite four without having gone up against all the other gyms before it. The “Stadium Cup” challenges are a side challenge that allows the player the ability to try a different type of challenge outside the main objective by trying to battle through the cup challenges with certain restrictions as to what level Pokémon you can use such as the Pika cup that restricts the player to low levelled or pre evolved Pokémon. • The conflict is mostly between the player and the characters you battle with throughout the main campaign along with the option to battle other players. There could be rules such as in the first few gyms that you are restricted to low level or unevolved Pokémon and that the Pokémon you can accesses also progresses with you along with how you need a certain number of gym badges in order to progress to the elite four which would stop the player from skipping all of the gyms and challenges.
GAMEPLAY MODES • There will be multiple player modes with the one of them being stadium (similar to the first 2 games) which allows you to try battling through four/three cup challenges with elevating challenges as the player goes through them. • Another mode will be the free battle which allows the player to play with one or three other players or the AI if they prefer which has no restrictions as to what Pokémon they want to battle with apart from legendary Pokémon. Another is the gym leader castle that is which is when the player has to battle though the different gyms in order to progress to the next gym and onto the option of the elite four and possibly the rival of that game, which can then unlock the gym castles of the previous generations so the player could go back and play those as well should they chose to. • If the games castles are completed 100% then there will be the option of battling against the rivals of that generation. • Another option that will pop up on the opening menu of the game will be the option of battle no/quick battle which allows the player to go straight into a battle against an AI with a completely randomized team of Pokémon, These will mostly be revamps of the previous modes since it is these specific modes that have made the game so big when it was released so if players of the first two games where try this there wont be major changes that could be seen as something that ruins the game or taking away its originality.
MARKET POSITION/COMPETITION • At the moment the Pokémon franchise is standing in a significant foothold with the recent release of Pokémon lets go Eevee/Pikachu game. I think my game will have some notoriety to it if released at the right time possibly once the current battle royal side of games seeing a big up in popularity in the market which would mean it wouldn’t be overshadowed by the recent trends going on in gaming. • I don’t really know of any games that hold massive similarities to the Pokémon Stadium games and I think its mostly that and how away from how the main Pokémon games are played that make these games so well known by the Pokémon community that if I were to make any big changes I feel it would ruin the whole game so apart from the obvious fact that this game is going to revolve around the third generation of Pokémon there wont be that many differences in the game which I don’t think is needed. • I think the major thing that will make this game sell well is how much like the original two games it will be with the inclusion of the 3 rd generation of Pokémon, gyms and elite four and seeing as how people have been going on for so ling wishing there to be a Pokémon stadium 3 I think it would sell quite well since it is something the fans of Pokémon have be wishing for literal years to come out so I believe it will do good on release.
USPS-UNIQUE SELLING POINTS • I think one of the major unique selling points of this game is that it is a long desired sequel in a line of games that has been a big favourite of die hard Pokémon fans for years and brining a third game out will bring joy to those members in the franchise who look back fondly at those games and wish for it to continue and would also bring in newer members of the franchise when said die hard fans start loosing it in joy over its release and want to know what it is they are so overjoyed over. • There will be the big change and/or selling point of the game being based in the 3 rd gen of Pokémon and have the Pokémon and option of challengers from the previous games to add on along with the mini games having third gen Pokémon and possibly having more options of playing the past mini games from the first two games for those who want an extra dollop of nostalgia on the side so as a way to also bring back pieces from the old games to the new one. • Along with the revamped and redesigned animation and affects for the attacks so as to give the game a more brushed up look which would help a lot since the graphics in gaming has gotten much better since the N 64 games were released. • Another thing I think I could do for this game is allow the players to actually customize their characters instead of just giving them the dull player models of the last games since now you can do that with more recent consoles and when gaming in general be it a single player or multiplayer this can give the player a sense of originality when designing their characters especially when they play online where they can show off their style and team. • With how online playing used to just mean player vs comp in the old games giving old players the chance to actually battle online against other players can make the game feel that more exiting since you not fighting against some AI and are instead battling another person with there own personalized team of Pokémon can give the player more of a sense of achievement if they where to beat them and win the battle.
SUMMARY • I will make online battles actual player vs player online but still keep the option of battling the computer. • I will definitely keep the mini games and possibly bring back the old mini games from the previous two games. • I will keep the cup battle challenges. • I will add the 3 rd generation of Pokémon and keep the Pokémon from the pervious games. • Keeping the gym leader castle and the progression through the challenges is a must but I will try and find a way to make it more interesting and less repetitive in some way. • I will give the option to allow players to transfer Pokémon they already from other games over onto this one so if they are use to battling with a specific move set or team layout then they can do that. • The platform for the game will be move onto the Nintendo switch since the controls are most similar to the old N 64 so there is familiarity. • The animations and effects from the previous games will be revamped so that the graphics will look better and not choppy like the previous games where sine the console can hold more. • I'm probably going to add the option for the player to customize their model so they have some level of uniqueness to there player models when they play and allowing them to show off how they look when the play online battles. • I don’t see there being a massive struggle to get it noticed on release since it is part of a well known long running franchise though I would still give it time before releasing it so as not to have it overshadowed by any other massive game names that may come out now and/or later. • I could easily get the news about the game coming out by using social media websites such as Facebook or twitter or by releasing trailers such as You. Tube or twitch possibly.
SUMMARY CONTINUED • I used my memory of when I played the game(s) to analyse the original game I was basing my game off of along with a few reviews and looking on google to fill in the gaps of my memory. • For quantitative I looked up on reviews from websites in the form of statistics on how it was/is roundly rated and how many copies of the game where sold around the world. For qualitative I looked up on what fans and players of the game had to play about it which I could see on some of the review sites and my own memory and thought of the game from I played it myself. • the reviews and comments from player and reviewers and my own memory of the game I was able where massive help in the influence of my game a lot when coming up with ideas on what I could keep in my idea for a sequel. With the qualitative helped me the most since it is the personal views of the people who have played it more than the statistics of the overall ratings since the ratings aren’t personal comments on the game itself like the qualitative data from the people which helped me when knowing what specific things I needed to change, get rid of and keep with how people thought of when they played the previous games.
