Ballad p A fairly short narrative poem written in a song like stanza form.
Couplet p A pair of rhymed lines
Free Verse p Poetry written in free verse is arranged in lines, may be more or less rhythmical, but has no fixed metrical pattern or expectation.
Lyric Poetry p Poetry with a lyrical or song-like quality.
Narrative Poetry p A poem that tells a story.
Quatrain p A four line stanza poem.
Sonnet p Type of lyric poetry; fourteen lines.
Stanza p A group of poetic lines that form a unit (a poem’s paragraph)

End Rhyme p Occurring at the end of two or more lines of verse.
Extended Rhyme p The addition of extra phrases to the rhythm of the song to delay an anticipated second rhyme.
Internal Rhyme p Rhyming that occurs within the line rather than at the end.
Rhyme p A pattern of words that contains a similar sounds at the end of the line.
Rhyme Scheme p A repeated pattern of rhymed words at the end of the line.
Rhythm p Internal feel of beat and meter perceived when poetry is read aloud.
Iambic Pentameter Let’s break it down: p Feet= groups of syllables p Meter= pattern of syllables in a line of poetry p Iambic= type of foot with one unstressed syllable followed by a stressed syllable p Penta= five p Iambic Pentameter= a line with 5 feet (pairs) of stressed and unstressed syllables
