Assonance… l Assonance is similar to alliteration but focuses on vowels instead l Assonance is the repetition of vowel sounds. This repetition is usually found in the middle of the word or at the end of the word
Examples: l Here are some famous examples of assonance: l How much wood could a wood chuck if a wood chuck could chuck wood? l Maggie, Milly, Molly and May went down to the beach to play one day.
Stanza… Poetry is not written in paragraphs; however, poetry is separated into different sections. These sections are known as stanzas
Stanzas l. A division or unit of a poem that is repeated in the same form--either with similar or identical patterns or rhyme and meter, or with variations from one stanza to another.
I spy… Take out your books and in the table of contents find the poem entitled “Annabel Lee” by Edgar Allen Poe. Before reading, see if you can spot the alliteration, assonance, and count the number of stanzas in the poem!
