Ice. Bridge Highlights FY 11 • Work centered on 4 focus areas: – Fast. Track ingest (for quick availability to users) – ECS ingest (for robust preservation and to enable enhanced data services via granule-level metadata) – Tools & services – Value-added products • Presentations and outreach 2 Po. DAG XXX: Ice. Bridge October 12, 2011
Fast. Track Ingest • Published 71 product/campaign datasets to ftp site, with as-available documentation (34 distinct datasets) • Brokered 1 product/campaign dataset • Created and published first 5 complete guide documents • Developed dataset versioning and data retention policies for Ice. Bridge data, analogous to policies for other DAAC data • Encouraging teams to adopt common standard formats and more consistent deliveries 3 Po. DAG XXX: Ice. Bridge October 12, 2011
Data Availability 26 instruments 34 datasets … and counting 4 Po. DAG XXX: Ice. Bridge October 12, 2011
ECS Ingest • First four products populated in ECS test mode • Ongoing work to create algorithms to determine spatial extents of data • Process is challenging due to non-standard, changing, and inconsistent data and metadata formats • Now negotiating agreements with providers to stabilize data deliveries and prevent ongoing code maintenance • Starting to plan development of an ingest protocol analogous to the EOSDIS satellite providers’ SIPS protocol 5 Po. DAG XXX: Ice. Bridge October 12, 2011
Tools & Services: Portal • Portal storyboards created with input from SWG • First release of portal June 13 – Map-based visualization of Greenland flight tracks; download/display of all available flight reports • Next priority development: access to data on ftp site • External search and aggregation services being developed by Libre team and exposed through portal 6 Po. DAG XXX: Ice. Bridge October 12, 2011
Tools & Services • Developing more robust online form for ingest of flight reports (for preservation) and associated metadata (to enable portal functionality) • Tools available on web site – NSIDC- and providercreated – Data readers and utilities • Held interchange meeting with ASF technical staff Aug 17 -18 to discuss common activities and possible joint development; collaborative work has not yet begun 7 Po. DAG XXX: Ice. Bridge October 12, 2011
Value-Added Products • Prototype along-track product created and distributed to SWG Apr 14 (two flightlines from Antarctica ‘ 09 campaign) • Created wiki for NSIDC/Ice. Bridge project/ Science Team/Science Working Group to discuss and evaluate VAPs and Science Teamdeveloped products • Held Web. Ex review of along-track product Aug 30 with SWG and ST • Creating 14 additional ATP Ice Sheet Along-Track Product flightlines for final evaluation of beta-version functions • Plan to put ATP into production Winter ’ 11 8 Po. DAG XXX: Ice. Bridge October 12, 2011
Presentations and Outreach • Conducted Science Working Group meetings – October 13 in-person; Jun 1, Aug 30 Web. Ex telecons – Next meeting (tentative) week of Jan 30 • Presentations at Science Team meetings – January 19 -21 (@GSFC); June 14 -16 (@UC Irvine) • Outreach at conferences – Fall AGU (poster); Spring EGU (presentation); brochure • Outreach to Cryo. Sat-2 team – Cryo. Sat-2 Validation Workshop Feb 1 -3; EGU; telecon with Cryo. Sat-2 technical management on possible collaborations (nothing yet begun) 9 Po. DAG XXX: Ice. Bridge October 12, 2011
Planned Activities FY 12 • Data Management: – Continued Fast. Track ingest of IB and pre-IB datasets, along with flight geometries and ancillary data – Writing guide documents – Creating provider agreements to stabilize data deliveries – ECS engineering leading to operational ingest – Production-quality ingest processes • Tools & Services: – Continuing incremental development of the Ice. Bridge portal as guided by the SWG. High priority tasks: access to data on ftp site (Jan 25 ‘ 12), visualization of Antarctic map and flightlines, access to along-track value-added products, access through ECHO to ECS-archived data • Value-Added Products: – Production-mode generation of along-track products (Winter ‘ 11/’ 12) – Development of bedmap and other gridded products in consultation with Ice. Bridge Science Team and Project Office • Develop plans for implementation of “bridge” components: – ICESat, ICESat-2, Cryo. Sat-2 10 Po. DAG XXX: Ice. Bridge October 12, 2011
