PNI Connector Purpose To introduce the PNI wiretoboard
PNI Connector Purpose: • To introduce the PNI wire-to-board and wire-to-wire, crimp style connector from JST. Objectives: • Illustrate the intended application. • Discuss the individual components of the series. • Review the application crimp tooling. Content: • 7 Pages
PNI Connector Wire-to-Board Wire-to-Wire Many applications require design flexibility in a connector system to incorporate both wire-to-board and wire-to-wire connections without switching to a different connector series allowing the user to use the same application tooling. The PNI series, crimp-style connectors are offered for wire-to-board and wire-to-wire applications on a 2 mm (. 079”) pitch, molded in a Ro. HS compliant 94 V-0 through-hole headers and housings, and incorporate both polarization and a secure locking feature and is designed to prevent contact stubbing / back-out when mated. Rated 3 A AC/DC (using 22 AWG) at 100 V. These robust connectors are available with a secondary retainer to ensure the contacts are fully seated and locked into the housings to prevent accidental release. The positive locking system is designed to fit inside the envelope of the header making it possible to stack the headers close together and still be able to release the positive lock. The series has an operating temperature range of -25 C to +85 C including temperature rise when applying an electrical current. The series is offered in 2~10 circuit sizes.
PNI Connector crimp style receptacle & socket housings Receptacle housing for wire-to-wire applications (With and without panel locks) Plug housing for wire-to-wire and wire-to-board applications Molded in Nylon 66 rated 94 V-0 material, the polarized PNI series housings incorporate a secure locking device to prevent accidental disconnection due to routing of wires or vibration. Available in 2 to 10 circuits, the locking mechanism is designed for a secure and stable connection ideal for high vibration applications. An audible click is heard and felt when mating the plug housing assembly with the mating half. With the use of an optional secondary retainer, the contacts are fully seated and locked into the housings making it ideal for a high vibration environment. The wire-to-wire receptacle housings can be used in free-hanging (without panel locks) or panel mounted (with panel locks) applications.
PNI Connector Retainers are available for both the receptacle and plug housings. While their use is optional, they provide additional contact retention security. They are most often used in very high vibration applications. As you can see from the above illustration, the retainer is slide into the contact cavities on the back side of the housing. The fingers of the retainer rest behind the contacts, eliminating any change of contact backouts. The retainers lock to protrusions on the sides of the housings.
PNI Connector crimp style contacts The PNI contacts, which are designed to accommodate a wire range of wore sizes (28 AWG to 22 AWG) are tinplated over a copper alloy base material. The suggested wire strip length for the wire is 2. 2 mm (0. 87”).
THE PNI SERIES IS ENGINEERING & MANUFACTURING FREINDLY Bench press and applicator for the PNI series Industry standard applicator for the PNI series YC hand tool for the PNI series Applicators are available for semi-automatic and fully automatic termination equipment normally found in the manufacturing environment as well as standard hand tools and contact extraction tooling (insertion tooling is not required for the VL series contacts. Standard reels (2, 000 pieces) for the VL series for semiautomatic and fully automatic assembly equipment are available for manufacturing.
