• Switching gears a little bit this week to some geometry skills. • We will be graphing ordered pairs, because you need to remember eventually how to graph slope.

Vocab- coordinate plane • A coordinate plane is a twodimensional plane formed by the intersection of a vertical line called y-axis and a horizontal line called x-axis. These are perpendicular lines that intersect each other at zero, and this point is called the origin. • The picture is a blank coordinate plane

Vocab- origin • On the flat coordinate plane, there are two axes, the vertical y -axis and the horizontal x-axis. The origin is the point where they intersect. This point has the coordinates 0, 0 and is usually labelled with the letter O. • It is right in the middle

Vocab- quadrant • The intersecting x- and y-axes divide the coordinate plane into four sections. • These four sections are called quadrants. • Number 1 begins at the top right quadrant and it moves counter clockwise.

Vocab- x axis and y axis • The horizontal axis in the coordinate plane is called the xaxis. The vertical axis is called the y-axis. . In an ordered pair, such as (x, y), the first value is called the x-coordinate and the second value is the ycoordinate.

HOW TO PLOT POINTS • Remember: In an ordered pair, such as (x, y), the first value is called the x-coordinate and the second value is the y-coordinate. • So if you had the ordered pair of (-2, 2) You would find -2 on the x axis first, Then find positive 2 on the y axis second. Then draw your point/dot where they cross.

Examples • A is at (0, 3) • B is at (2, -4) • C is at (2, 4) • D is at (-2, -4) • E is at (-3, 0) • F is at (0, -3) • G is at (3, 0)
