PLOT MAP [IN 4] • Somebody Who is the protagonist? • Wanted What does the protagonist want, or what is the protagonist’s goal? • But What is conflict in the story, or what is keeping the protagonist from his or her goal? • So • Then… How is the conflict resolved, or how does the protagonist reach his or her goal? What is the story’s denouement, or how does the story end?
SWBST SUMMARY • Cinderella wanted to go to the ball, but her evil stepmother wouldn’t allow her to go, so her fairy godmother showed up and used magic to give her a dress, shoes, and a carriage so she could go. Then…she met the Prince, they fell in love, and lived happily ever after.
POINT OF VIEW [IN 6] • Narrator: The voice telling a story. • Point of View: Vantage point from which a writer tells a story. • First-Person: narrator is one of the characters, limited to what they know • Second Person: narrator addresses you, uncommon in literature • Third-Person Limited: narrator focuses on thoughts/feelings of one character, not in the story • Third-Person Omniscient: narrator knows everything about everyone, not in the story
