Please Hold Your Applause
Why should I care?
Principle #1 • The only reliable basis for a good government and just human relations is Natural Law. • Man Cannot Rescind nor Give Natural Law. • Marcus Tullius Cicero: Roman Writer on Politics • One must have right conduct and reasoning power in relationship to “Natural Law. ”
Who’s “in charge” here?
Unalienable Rights • "Unalienable: incapable of being alienated, that is, sold and transferred. “ • There is no government interest which outweighs an inalienable right. • There is no direct grant of rights or powers from God to civil rulers, i. e. , no divine right of kings. • So, have we been convinced of “the Claw” being in charge?
Principle #2 A Free People cannot survive under a republican constitution unless they remain Virtuous and Morally Strong. “As nations become corrupt and vicious, they are in more need of masters. ” Mr. Franklin would ask, ”who is in need of more masters, Sid or Andy? ”
Thomas Paine • Common Sense • American were “industrious, frugal, and honest. ” • Europeans wanted “luxury, indolence, amusement, and pleasure. ”
Principle #3 • The people must elect “virtuous” leaders. • A Natural Aristocracy- the best citizens should accept major roles in public life. • Founded on virtue and talents NOT on wealth and birth. • Pure Democracy is self destructive… but why?
Do we really want everyone voting?
Founder Thoughts on Public Office • Public Office should be treated as an honor. • Be fearful of those who seek power and money; ie-ambition and avarice. • How do we nurture future leaders and citizens? Can society instill virtue and superior character?
Can a corrupt government filled with sheep be saved?
Just say no! • We need good people. • We don’t need dumb people who are lazy… Who do not have enough energy to dress appropriately.
I mean…Please!
Is Anger a Virtue
Do we want these people in public office?
