HOW WILL STUDENTS PRACTICE READING INDEPENDENTLY? Book Boxes- These will house independent reading books. Students will pick books that are “just right” for them, based on our Shoes lesson. Every day they will have opportunities to read and practice using the strategies taught in class. Growing as a Reader Display- Students are encouraged to read as much as possible at home. Students will have opportunities to share favorite books at morning meeting and display completed books in our class “growing as a reader” display.

BIRTHDAYS Send us a note a few days before Send in enough treats/snacks for everyone (22 students, 2 teachers, 2 TIAs) Send in something that will take 15 minutes or less to distribute and enjoy Send in any supplies/utensils needed for the treats
PARENT VOLUNTEERS Parents are always welcome to volunteer to help in the classroom! We will be sending home information about this shortly. Consider reading to the class, helping with the library, organizing materials, or preparing for events.
TIPS FOR A SUCCESSFUL YEAR Check planner and take-home folder daily and initial the planner Read aloud to your child often Discuss what your child is reading with him/her Carefully review all papers sent home Provide a consistent and quiet study/homework area Contact us whenever there is a concern or something great to share!
