GOAL CIRCLE VIOLATIONS § § § Goalkeeper “owns” the line 10 second count Goalkeeper “grounds” outside the circle with any part of her body Goalkeeper may be called for a foul outside the circle while being inside the circle Goalkeeper may leave the circle with the ball Goalkeeper may not return to the circle with the ball unless the ball has been “played. ” “Played” means ball leaves crosse and is touched by another, or crosse is checked, or play is stopped due to a foul. 19. EMPTY STICK CHECK § NFHS Rule 9. 1 e – Empty Stick Check: check or impede an opponent’s crosse when her crosse is not in contact with the ball … only if the opponent could have received or gained possession of the ball. Incidental contact is not … [an empty] check. PARENT/PLAYER CLINIC
20. DIRECT OR INDIRECT? § There is no such thing as a direct free position. § There are only indirect free positions and free positions. § Is it direct or indirect? § The umpire will say “Indirect!” § An indirect free position is used only when the defense has committed a minor foul inside the 12 meter fan. § NFHS Rule 9 PENALTIES. 3 a - … No shot may be made by the player taking [the] free position until the ball has been played by some other player.
