Project Lead the Way Biomedical Science Program � Biomedical Science �Combines both the study of biology and medicine �Includes biomedical doctors, medical scientists or clinical laboratory scientists �These scientists work to gain knowledge on the main principles of how the human body works and to find new ways to cure or treat disease by developing advanced diagnostic tools or new therapeutic strategies.

Course Map

The Courses �Expectations and workload will be college level. Much of the work for each class will be done outside of class. Students must be prepared, current in their assignments and full participants in each class. �Grades are on the student’s permanent college record (i. e. the student’s transcript).

Courses cont’d. �Each instructor has attendance policies and class, clinical and lab behavior policies. This includes attending class regularly, arriving on time, and staying for the entire class, regardless of other school activities and responsibilities. �Deadlines are strictly enforced. Late work and/or re-testing due to low scores are NOT permitted.

Fees There a number of fees associated with the program, including certification testing fees, supplies, TB screening, flu vaccination, and other uniform costs. Plano ISD Health Sciences Academy covers the cost of scrubs, tuition, and books. Students are required to cover any additional costs/fees.

Courses - FERPA Students are protected by the Family Education Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) of 1974. In compliance with this Act, instructors will not discuss student grades, academic progress, or classroom attendance and/or participation with a student’s parent(s), unless the student is present and has signed a waiver form allowing the parent(s) to be present. A separate waiver form must be signed each time a parent and student meet with an instructor.

The Clinical Experience �Clinical experiences are limited in number. Placement into CNA and PCT clinical pathways occurs in the second semester of 10 th grade via a qualification process. Other pathway placement occurs during the second semester of 11 th grade. �Clinical involvement requires transportation to clinical sites, health insurance, immunization documentation, background check and drug screen prior to clinical placement.
