Plan for Eagle Overview Life Scout BOR 1 Ideally end of 11 th grade/ Candidate’s 18 th Birthday Readiness 2 Project Proposal & Approval 3 Detail Planning & Project Work 4 Appl. Prep & SMC 5 Eagle BOR 6 Eagle COH Handbook Requirements: 1. Active in Troop/Patrol as Life Scout >= 6 Months 2. Demonstrate Scout Spirit and Duty to God 3. Earn 21 Merit Badges, including 13 Required 4. While Life Scout Serve >= 6 Months in Position(s) of Responsibility Participation Expectations Support from Assistant Scoutmaster Mentor and Eagle Advisor At least 6 mo; Inidividual maturity, Leadership readiness 12+ weeks 2
Plan for Eagle Phase 1: Readiness Purpose: • • Orient candidate & candidate’s parents on Eagle requirements, level of effort, available resources, etc. When candidate expresses readiness, demonstrates maturity, has a plan for Handbook Requirements, and ASM mentor agrees, assign an Eagle Advisor and proceed with project discernment. Plan for Eagle Phase 3: Project Planning & Execution Purpose: • • Prepared detail plan of design, materials, funding and workdays … and execute against the plan Document detailed plan, activities, changes and challenges Timing: • • Trigger – Candidate must begin project within 90 days of District approval unless authorized by Eagle Advisor Project Duration—Normally several months References: • • Eagle Scout Leadership Service Workbook Past Eagle Project books 3. 1 Planned Project Start Date 3. 2 Begin Project 3. 3 Execute Project, Engaging the Troop Complete Project Workbook 3. 4 Obtain Sponsor Approval Must be <= 90 Days, unless approved by Eagle Advisor 8 to 20+ weeks 5
Plan for Eagle Phase 4: Application Preparation & SMC Purpose: • Ensure Eagle candidate requirements have been completed prior to SM Conference Timing: • • • Trigger – Prerequisites (first five Eagle Scout from Handbook) requirements have been satisfied Scoutmaster Conference (SMC) must be conducted prior to candidate’s 18 th birthday!! Completed Leadership Project 4. 1 Obtain 4 Letters of Recom’dn Attesting to Scout Spirit Prepare Statement of Ambitions & Life Purpose List Positions of Non-BSA Leadership & Honors/ Awards 4. 2 Complete Eagle Scout Rank Application form 4. 3 Participate in Scoutmaster Review Must be Completed before Candidate’s 18 th Birthday!! Participation Expectations 2 to 4+ weeks 6
Plan for Eagle Phase 5: Eagle BOR Purpose: • Confirm candidate’s completed requirements and Scout Spirit Timing: • • Trigger – Eagle Scout Rank application form completed through Avon Troop 274 sign-offs If BOR not conducted within 3 months of Candidate’s 18 th birthday, then official exception must be requested.
