What is Evidence? Information gathered, which when matched against the requirements of the Unit of Competency, provides proof of competence.
Meeting the requirements of Principles of Assessment To ensure that assessment processes, methods and tools meet the requirements of the Principles of Assessment you must Unpack the Unit of Competency and: 1 Identify the evidence required 2 Select appropriate assessment methods to collect the evidence 3 Identify the assessment tools that align to each of the methods selected
Identify the Evidence Required a) Read the Unit Descriptor/Description and Visualise Competency b) Scan the rest of the Unit and refine visualisation c) Check the Evidence Guide d) Read other components of the Unit e) Consider • • f) Industry Standards Dimensions of Competency AQF level of the qualification Language, Literacy and Numeracy requirements Complete the list of Evidence required
How to Visualise Competency Consider the following: – How would competent people perform the task in the workplace? – How would they apply their knowledge? – What would they do if something went wrong? – How would they handle multiple tasks or pressures? – What would the product or service look like? – How would they transfer their skills to other contexts? – How would they apply employability skills? – What would a competent person NOT do?

Assessment Methods vs Assessment Tools The instrument/s and procedures used to gather and interpret evidence of competence: – Instrument – the specific questions or activity used to assess competence by the assessment method selected. An assessment instrument may be supported by a profile of acceptable performance and the decision making rules or guidelines to be used by assessors. – Procedures – the information or instructions given to the candidate and the assessor about how the assessment is to be conducted and recorded.
