Stock Characters Malcom is a conventional protagonist because he is good hearted and is a brave character. An example of this is in the scene where he says he doesn’t want war then tells the apes they have their families, like he has his and they both need to be protected. This shows that Malcom is understanding as he was thinking about the apes, not just the humans. Furthermore, this indicates that he is open-minded as the other characters would not have cared about the apes, or their feelings. It shows he is brave as he went to speak to the apes, when no-one else did, not knowing if he would get harmed – or even worse, die. Koba is a conventional antagonist because he is an evil and powerhungry character. This can be seen throughout the film when he tried to get the other apes to turn on Caesar. This is especially shown when Koba says, “Caesar loves humans more than apes”. This implies that Koba is power-hungry as he wants to be the leader and wants to have Caesar’s position. Koba is also portrayed as evil. This is suggested when he shoots Caesar in the shoulder and makes it look like it was the humans. This shows he’s a bad character as that incident led to the war, causing many humans to die – which was his intention all along.
