Included in the U. S. Soccer Concussion Initiative are specific changes to rules on substitutions and heading for certain age groups. Those changes included: Modify substitution rules to allow players who may have suffered a concussion during games to be evaluated without penalty Eliminating heading for children U 10 and under. o Please note that U 11 is listed in the U. S. Soccer Concussion Initiative document because U 11 players can be 10 years old at the beginning of the season Limiting the amount of heading in practice for children between the ages of 11 and 13 In addition to the safety initiatives, the following modified rule should be implemented: When a player deliberately heads the ball in a game, an indirect free kick (IFK) should be awarded to the opposing team from the spot of the offense. If the deliberate header occurs within the goal area, the indirect free kick should be taken on the goal area line parallel to the goal line at the point nearest to where the infringement occurred. If a player does not deliberately head the ball, then play should continue.

Birth-Year Registration calendars will now align with the start of the calendar year and run from January to December, rather than August to July as it had previously. For example, a U-15 player (players 15 years old or younger) would have a birth year of 2000 (Jan. 1 through Dec. 31) for the 2015 registration year. In 2016, U-15 players would be born in 2001 or earlier. Birth-year registration applies to all player age groups and not just players age 12 and younger. The initiative will align registration with the international standard, while simultaneously providing clearer information on player birth dates to combat ‘relative age effect’.

Off Season Training The yearly training plan is arranged by the coach, which also may include the following: • Winter Club Indoor Training Sessions • Winter Tournaments • Winter Indoor League Play • Spring Break Training Programs 13

Expenses In addition to the club fees, there a number of additional expenses throughout the year. They may include: • Cost of trainer • Tournaments • Team apparel (Sweatshirts, training shirts, etc. ) * • Travel expenses if team travels to a tournament *(Uniforms are included with club registration) 14

What to Expect from Coaches • Display professionalism at all times at both practices and games • Be a leader for the players and parents • Be an effective communicator • Be fair, honest and have integrity • Remember we are coaching children • Promote a developmental model in keeping with the philosophy of the club 15

Parent Roles • Be a positive, supportive role model for your child, the team, and your coach • Refrain from sideline coaching • Volunteer for positions for your team and/or the Club • Communicate questions and issues directly to coach in a civil and timely fashion 16
