WHAT IS PLAGIARISM? • Plagiarism of Authorship-Using a paper you found online, or got

WHAT IS PLAGIARISM? • Plagiarism of Authorship-Using a paper you found online, or got from a friend, and pretending you are the author. • Paraphrase Plagiarism- Taking a writer’s words or ideas, altering them slightly, and passing them off as your own. • Patchwork Plagiarism-Taking bits and pieces of a writer’s words or ideas, and intermingling them with your own words and ideas. • Plagiarizing One’s Self- Using words or ideas from a previous assignment in a current assignment, without permission from both the current and previous instructors.

RELYING TOO HEAVILY ON OUTSIDE SOURCES • Every sentence needs a citation because it comes from an outside source. • Your “voice” is absent from the assignment. • You can’t provide a detailed explanation of what you’ve written without reviewing your notes. • Irresponsible and will probably result in a zero because you are over using sources due to a lack of understanding of the topic, laziness, or a comprehension deficit.
