What is a poem? A poem is a piece of writing in which the expression of feelings and ideas is given intensity by attention to word choice sometimes involving poetic devices such as rhyme, rhythm, and imagery. It uses lines (short sentences used to form a stanza) and stanzas (a division of four or more lines). Poetic devices are important tools that the poet uses to develop the poem’s meaning or strengthen mood or feeling. Different Types of Poems: • Narrative • Limerick • Haiku • Free verse
