Human Dignity • Human dignity refers to people’s self-respect and the pride they take in who they are. • Having respect for someone’s human dignity is so important to South Africans that it has been included in the Constitution. • The Constitution says that the dignity of a person must be respected and protected. No one should be made to feel less important than anyone else just because of who they are. Slide 3

ACTIVITY Read the stories on slides 5, 6 and 7, then answer the questions below. 1. What religion do each of these learners belong to? 2. In each story, the learners’ friends are not respecting their dignity. When one of your friends laughs at or teases the learners in these stories, how will you explain each learner’s behaviour?
