PIT Tag Forecaster (PTF): a new PTAGIS feature A. Giorgi J. Geiselman J. Tenney N. Tancreto
What is the PTF? • Database system: Forecast Columbia Basin PIT tag use • Anadromous salmonids • Integrated with PTAGIS • • Time step = 3 year forecast
Genesis of the PTF • 2008/2010 FCRPS Bi. Op • Improve coordination and efficiency of PIT tag use among users region-wide. • NPCC Tagging Forum 2013 recommendations : • Improve efficiency of PIT tag use • Contain costs • Minimize # fish handled/tagged.
Applications of the PTF • Provide a common platform for viewing planned tagging activities system-wide. • Identify opportunities for sharing of tagged fish among programs & user-groups. • Assist with coordinating tag use within and across watersheds. • Maintain adequate stock coverage for Bi. Op & FWP monitoring needs into the future. • Minimize over-tagging ESA-listed populations • Inform NOAA take-permits.
History of PTF • 2009 -2010 • • • NOAA, AA & CBFWA scope the PTF tool UW & Bio. Analysts -> prototype system @CBR Agencies provided data • 2011 -2012 • Dormant • 2013 -2014 • • • PSMFC redesigns system & integrates with PTAGIS Beta-test, spring/summer 2014 (FPC & Corps) Regional parties/agencies are populating the database
The PTF System: Two Components • Database Populated online by users; update annually • Seek one contact per agency/user group • Query & Reporting tools • Generic query and graphical report tool • Detailed query tool •
Database information by RME project • ESU/MPG • • • ESA-listed and unlisted populations Release site Project/contract # Sponsor Contractor • Number to be released • Life stage • Origin (wild/hat. ) • Hatchery name • RME application • Data provider

Queries & Reports: Web Query Tool
AA, NOAA & NPCC • Request agencies/PUDs/firms populate the PTF database by 03/31/15 • Will provide the PTF as a tool for any regional PIT tag planning and coordination forum, or project manger. • Will work with PSMFC to include map-based query capability.
PIT Tag User-groups’ Role • Assign an agency representative to populate the PTF database by 3/31/15 • Done (pretty much) • AFEP, CSS or SMP projects verify the completeness and accuracy of existing forecasts provided by the FPC and Corps. • Provide comments and recommendations regarding input parameters/procedures, queries, and output. • Use the database to foster planning discussions in local and regional RME forums and at the project level.
