My name is Captain Shipwreck Pete and I is going to teach ye how to speak Pirate! Now, I hope ye all listen good and try hard otherwise ye might be walking to plank or scrubbing the deck.
Ahoy Matey! You're very lucky! Captain likes you. ‘Matey’ means ‘friend’. Captain is saying ‘Hello friend’.
Shiver me timbers! Pirates say this when they are shocked or can’t believe something. Can you say ‘shiver me timbers’?
Avast ye! ‘Avast ye!’ means ‘pay attention’. When your teacher shouts ‘Avast ye!’ you need to stop and listen!
Batten down the hatches! There must be a storm coming! ‘Batten down the hatches’ means, get the ship ready for a big storm!
Booty! ‘Booty’ is a pirate word for treasure. All pirates love treasure, especially Captain Shipwreck Pete! Can you all say ‘booty’?
All hands hoy! Captain shouts this when he wants everyone up on deck! Can you say ‘All hands hoy’?
Yo ho ho! This a cheerful way to get somebody’s attention. Captain Shipwreck Pete wants you to know that you have been a excellent pirate crew!
