Library Webpage - Our Social Media can be accessed from here
2014 - We started using Pinterest • At the beginning of 2014 our new library web page was ready to be launched. This is on the Intranet and available to students, teachers and parents both at school and from home. • As part of the new website we set up social media including Library Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and Pinterest accounts. • Pinterest account - www. pinterest. com/librarystaidans/
Why we use Pinterest • Pinterest has great visual power to attract readers to books. We use it to curate and organise visual reading boards. • We now have 45 boards that are arranged in genres, reading lists, display ideas, book quotes, book trailers and teacher resource lists. • All new books are added to Pinterest at the time of cataloguing. Updating Boards is the role of one of our Library Technicians and is done weekly.
Why we use Pinterest • To connect the library to our school community and to highlight our collection • To encourage reading. It is also an easy way to show parents what is available • We can also follow other pinners and boards of interest. For example other school libraries, public libraries and authors around the world.
Why we use Pinterest
Where to Pin from • We use the following; • Goodreads https: //www. goodreads. com/ • Reviews from publishers • Respected bloggers including our own Children’s Books Daily http: //childrensbooksdaily. com/
Promoting Pinterest • Promote with Wide Reading classes and when working with all classes in the Senior School when using the library web page • Emails to students and staff including the link to Pinterest • Information in the School Newsletter and Year Level Newsletters to parents
The Challenges • To view the library Pinterest page you have to join and create an account. Use under the age of 13 is prohibited. • Encouraging our school community to see the benefits of signing up and following us on Pinterest. • Pinterest is a social media tool that many students have not signed up for • Problems do arise – Go to Pinterest Help Centre
Where to now…. . • Continue to curate and showcase new books, teacher resources, library events, displays and ideas • Continue to promote to the school community • Continue to connect with other schools and libraries throughout the world
