Let’s start with a big piece of art! • The painting, which uses a palette of grey, black, and white, is regarded by many art critics as one of the most moving and powerful anti-war paintings in history. • The painting was created in response to the bombing of Guernica, in 1937. A Basque Country village in northern Spain, by Nazi Germany and Fascist Italian warplanes at the request of the Spanish Nationalists. • The painting became famous and widely acclaimed, and it helped bring worldwide attention to the Spanish Civil War.

#Making a point with a placard: • Over the year, we have produced many different responses to the learning, by using art as our medium. • The starting point today continued to develop our thoughts. • We have learned how art can be used to make people think: and for a way for us to express our opinions and ideas!

Tate modern: #Tate. Change A current display at the Tate Modern Gallery offers the opportunity for you to use Twitter to make your thoughts and opinions known about art and the world we live in: How has art changed the way you see the world? Art can hold up a mirror to contemporary life, raise awareness about urgent issues or argue for change, as the artworks in this display demonstrate. In the gallery at the Tate, you can explore artists’ ideas about their role in society and share your experiences and thoughts about how art can change the world.

#Making a point with a placard: • Today, we want you to use this idea to develop your own thoughts: • Using the idea of #PROTEST as a starting point we want you to use your placard to make a statement about something you want people to think about. • Think about your own life: • Home, school, clubs, teams, friends or foes, the area that you live in, social issues. • You can use the space to say anything you want. There is no word limit. • Make your writing bold so your statement stands out

Your final thoughts in a frame: • To develop, we want you to test your artistic talents. Now it is up to you: 1. You can create something to do with the lockdown; use bubble writing, stencils, make a social statement about recent issues on the news. 2. You could come up with a completely new idea; 3. You could use the frame to make a picture of anything you like - something personal to you, or something to make others think about the world. 4. You could write a poem in the frame, or use one word and present it in artistic way. Write a short story if you want. It is up to you. • Once you have completed your work take a photo and send it to CC@wes. swecet. org
