Working with a Team Every day I was working with different members of the Pi. Af team. Lutfah Subair, the other PICS intern (pictured left) and I worked on many projects together. The summer is the time when Princeton in Africa welcomes its newest fellows to the continent and says goodbye the old fellows. In this picture, Lutfah and I are putting together a board to document the new class of fellows. We worked on this from start to finish: collecting photos from each fellow, typing up the information, buying the materials, and designing the board.

Learning from others Part of the beauty of working with a small team is that I got to work with all different aspects of the program. Here I am with Program Director, Michelle Spada. With Michelle I worked on communicating with fellows to make sure we had the necessary information to keep them safe and make sure they were doing good work. I also spent a lot of time working with Reanne Olivier, the Program Manager. Reanne was a huge help in guiding me through the different parts of being in a small team and gave me direction in all my work.

Working on Social Media Presence When I wasn’t working with others, I was often sitting behind a screen (or 2) and working on recruitment and alumni presence through Princeton in Africa’s social media presence. I also helped build a new website, working with the executive director, Jodi Ringel on the design and updating text to create clearer navigation around the site.

The Best Parts of Interning: Orientation The best part of my summer internship occurred

The Best Parts of Interning: Orientation The best part of my summer internship occurred in June at Princeton in Africa’s orientation. During these 5 days, the fellows for the 2019 -2020 spent three days in Princeton, preparing for their year on the continent. Meeting the fellows and working with them was inspirational. They were thoughtful and insightful as they discussed the difficulties of working in the context of an imperialist past and prepared to work cautiously towards the betterment of the world.
