On Monday 26 April 1937, at 4: 30 p. m. the small Basque town of Guernica was destroyed from German bombers. 6000 habitants town reduced to rubble.

Picasso started rough draft on Guernica. The huge mural began to take shape.

Picasso drew dozen of sketches on paper. Picasso used darker colors, cubism, and lots of expressions to get his angry feeling across his painting.

He started to paint Guernica with oil paint on a 7 meters canvas (25 feet wide and 12 feet high).

On June 4 th, Picasso gave a finishing touch to the painting.
