Newton’s st 1 Law • The seatbelts in this rollercoaster keep Jack and Reed inside the car as it speeds down the track and comes to a stop. A body in motion tends to stay in motion and will continue moving forward if the seat belt is not there to apply a force to stop them.

Friction • The force of friction is much lower on ice allowing the metal blade of the ice skate to glide easily. There is still friction – if there was not we would not be able to move forward.

MASS • On top of the Great Wall of China my weight is a bit lower. Weight is a measurement of the Earth’s gravitational pull and as you move further from the center of the Earth your weight decreases.

MOMENTUM • The train has a rather large momentum due to it’s mass. However as it is stopped it does not have momentum because it does not have velocity. I have more momentum walking than the train does sitting on the track.

Acceleration of gravity • The acceleration of gravity “g” pulls me back down to Earth at a constant rate when I jump up.

Balanced Forces • The forces on the porcupine are balanced because he is not moving. The applied force of my hand is equal to the his normal force making the forces balanced.

PROJECTILE • When the bullet leaves my gun it is a projectile. The only force acting on a projectile is gravity and the bullet will drop in height at a constant rate before hitting the ground.
