Physical Development The children will continue to develop their moving and handling, by developing their PE skills. They will learn how to roll, jump and land safely, climb, swing and stretch. They will use a wide range of materials and tools to develop their fine motor control, including using ‘dough disco’ to strengthen the finger muscles! They will continue to write with a variety of writing tools, including pencils to draw and create. The children will continue to use scissors in a safe way and develop their cutting skills. Literacy The children continue to learn letter sounds and keywords and use this knowledge to read and write captions and simple sentences. We will be looking at non fiction texts and using them to find out about different occupations. As we approach Winter and Christmas we will be sharing many different stories, talking about the characters, setting and plot. Mathematics The children will continue to develop their counting skills, recognising numbers and understand where they come in the number system. They will develop their addition and subtraction skills and will begin to record these calculations. We will be exploring weight and use language to compare the weight of things. We will continue to develop our knowledge of 2 D shapes, talking about their properties and begin to look at 3 D shapes. Personal, Social and Emotional Development The children will continue to develop their friendships. Through play opportunities the children will learn how to take turns, compromise and deal with situations as they arise. We will be talking about own family customs and traditions and how these might be the same or different to other peoples. Superheroes Do all superheroes wear capes? (People who help us) Term 2 Kipling class The Wider Curriculum This is a exciting but busy time of year! We will be holding another parent event where you will be invited into the classroom again. We will be getting ready for Christmas by learning lots of different songs and dances, sharing Christmas dinner together and having a party! Communication and Language The children will have lots of opportunities to develop their language skills. They will be learning new words to name and describe things. We will practise performing and speaking in a loud clear voice. They will take on different role in the vet surgery and the police station role play areas. The children will be encouraged to develop their own stories when playing with small world activities. We will be asking lots of questions as we are hoping to have some visitors come to our class. Expressive Arts and Design The children will be taking part in dance sessions with the PE specialist. We will be learning songs and dances for the Christmas performance. They will use a range of art materials and techniques to create pieces of art, including sculpture and paintings. Understanding the World This term there are many festivals to celebrate: fireworks night, remembrance day and Christmas to name a few. We will be looking at how people celebrate special times. The children will be developing their language to describe items and looking at opposites, e. g. rough / smooth, shiny / dull. The children will continue to go to Forest School and will observe the changes that happen there as the seasons start to change. We will be looking at how things have changed over time, in particular in school and the emergency services.
