The Media and Disability: Disabled people over the years have been marginalized within and through the media. These areas are as follows: • The focus is on the impairment more than the individual • Disabled people are under-represented through their portrayal in the media • Mainstream media do not recognize the disabled art, resulting in less major roles/positions. Though the media are beginning to change, it is evident that much more work is needed by the media industry and the disabled community, where both need to work and learn from each other.
