Phrases of quantity
Today, you will learn to use phrases of quantity to talk about food.
Phrases of quantity How do we count these food items? one hamburger (a hamburger) one apple pie (an apple pie) These food items are countable.
Phrases of quantity Then what about these food items? a glass of juice a packet of French fries We use phrases of quantity with food that is uncountable (e. g. juice) or hard to count (e. g. French fries).
Phrases of quantity Here are more phrases of quantity. a cup of lemon tea a can of cola a cup of hot chocolate a bottle of water
Phrases of quantity We can also say a box of French fries. a packet of French fries a box of chicken wings a packet of potato chips a bowl of corn
Phrases of quantity Some words (e. g. pizza) can be both countable and uncountable. Countable Pizza is countable when we talk about a whole pizza. Uncountable Pizza is uncountable when we talk about it in general statements, e. g. I love pizza. a slice of pizza three pizzas We use a slice / a piece of pizza to talk about a portion of a whole pizza.
Phrases of quantity a can of cola two cans of cola two can of colas We can count the number of cans, not cola.
