Photosynthesis Lab Leaf Disc Assay Lab Design Comparison

Photosynthesis Lab: Leaf Disc Assay

Lab Design • Comparison of photosynthetic rate in different types of plants – Independent variable? – Dependent variable? • Spinach will be used as a control • Your group will bring in another plant sample: – Must be GREEN leaves – Trees, shrubs, houseplants – Vegetable greens • Record data every minute for 10 minutes (rate = # floats/sec)

Bozeman Biology • PS Lab – Concepts (3 min) – START AT 2: 30 – http: //youtu. be/6 ZSp. XUe. Kr 0? list=PL 0 B 4 CED 0 AB 112 B 993 – Good to know about DPIP • PS Lab – Walkthrough (7 min) – http: //youtu. be/Zn. Y 9_w. MZZWI? li st=PL 0 B 4 CED 0 AB 112 B 993

Provided Materials • Access to glassware (beakers, glass dishes) • Cork borers • Bicarbonate solution • Syringes (no needles) • Spinach leaves (control) • Ring stands • Lamps You bring plant leaves to test!

Lab Assessment • Each group must create a presentation summarizing their findings (Google. Slides) • All group members should be involved in creation of slides • Completed slide must be shared (Google Drive) by 11: 59 pm the day before presenting • Class presentations (all slides) will be posted on website for writing conclusions in NB • Follow slide requirements (next slide)

Google. Slides Requirements 1. 2. 3. 4. Title slide (all team member names & block letter) Background (specifically about your leaves) Results (bar graph comparing reaction rate) Conclusion – – Use bullet points What did you see? Why did that happen? Redesign/extension 5. Works cited & acknowledgements – Citations (background info) – Thanks (leaf collector and/or provider)
