Photosynthesis & Cellular Respiration SB 1 & SB 3
What is Photosynthesis? • Process Plants use to make their own Food/Glucose.
The Chlorophyll in the leaves absorbs the Sunlight.
• Reactants= Raw Materials
The Sunlight is combined with Water and Carbon Dioxide. These are the reactants (RAW MATERIALS) CO 2
The RAW MATERIALS react to make Glucose (C 6 H 12 O 6) and Oxygen. These are the Products. O 2
The reactants (Raw Materials) and products of PHOTOSYNTHESIS: • CO 2+ H 2 O+LIGHT C 6 H 12 O 6 + O 2 • Carbon, water, dioxide sun light, glucose oxygen • CONVERTS LIGHT ENERGY INTO CHEMICAL ENERGY
Cellular Respiration
What is Cellular Respiration? • Process that breaks down Glucose • Produces Carbon Dioxide, ATP and water
• Cell Respiration Equation: O 2 + Glucose Co 2 + H 2 O + ATP
• takes place in the Mitochondria
There are 2 types of Cellular Respiration: 1. Aerobic Respiration: uses O 2
2. Anaerobic Respiration does not use O 2
Why can Plants live without Animals but Animals can’t live without Plants?
Plants Make: Glucose and O 2 during PHOTOSYNTHESIS CO 2, ATP, H 2 O during CELL RESPIRATION Plants do not need animals b/c they make everything they need!!
Remember…. • Plants have Chloroplasts and Mitochondria. • Animals just have Mitochondria.
