Vary the composition each frame by adjusting both the camera angle and the subject distance.




Adjust the aperture to control depth of field. Remember: The wider the aperture, the smaller the # (ex: 2. 8 is wider than 5. 6) and the less background is in focus.




Attempt shooting from dramatic viewpoints and look for strong framing elements like your previous assignments.




Start shooting from farther away and slowly move closer to the subject to provide a wider angle and a more intimate view.

The Migrant Mother, 1936. “The story I’ll never forget. ” Taken in a California agricultural workers camp. Lange postponed her journey home to follow a sign into the camp. She took 6 photos of a mother with 7 children on the brink of starvation. When she returned, she gave the photos to her editor who then contact the federal authorities. As a result of the published article and photos, the government shipped 20, 000 pounds of food to the camp.

Attempt to document an event or tell a story through your image series. Focus on a person and their life experiences or even a place and its significance.
