Phoenix • An important part of Achilles Life. • Phoenix met Achilles father when he ran away from his own father as a young man. • Here is where he found favor in the eyes of Peleus, Achilles father.

Becoming a second father to Achilles. • When Achilles was a baby Phoenix feed him his first bite of meat. • He told Peleus that he would always look out for him. • Phoenix also told Peleus that he would not leave Achilles and would stand by him through anything.

Told to speak to Achilles • Phoenix was one of the three men that was told to go speak with Achilles and tell him of the gifts that Agamemnon would give him to come back and fight. • When they spoke with Achilles he told them of his plan of sailing home at mornings light. • Achilles told Phoenix that he was welcome to go with them but he would not force him.

Upset with the news l l Achilles wanted to leave really upset Phoenix although he still said he did not wish to be separated with Achilles. He told the story of how he had ran away from his family and met him. He also tried to tell Achilles of the glory he would receive for going out and helping to win the war against the Trojans. Although Phoenix tried Achilles heart was still hard.

The Decision n n After Achilles had his fill he asked the other two to leave. He told Phoenix to stay the night. But he said that he would make a decision of what he was going to do at morning light. If Phoenix had not spoke to him so hard he would have sailed away without thinking twice.
